Job overview

Concord College is England’s premier co-educational boarding school set in the heart of the Shropshire countryside with 572 students aged 13-19.

We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic singing coach from January 2023 who can inspire and enthuse others and who will be willing to contribute and add to our established extracurricular programme.

The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to work at one of the country’s leading independent schools and within a well-resourced and thriving Music department. They will be leading one to one singing sessions to respectful and hard-working students (between 13-19 years) who are eager to excel in everything they do. Our students’ musical interests lie mainly with pop and musical theatre, therefore coaching, performing and accompanying experience in these styles will be an advantage. Alongside individual coaching, other tasks will include choosing and arranging appropriate repertoire and preparing students for the various school productions and/or music exams as necessary.

Currently there are 12 hours per week available. This includes 10 hours per week of one-to-one teaching and 2 hours leading music clubs (choir and music exams aural clinic). Due to the casual nature of the role, however, there will be no set or standard hours of work nor will there be a guaranteed minimum number of hours of work, as hours of attendance will fluctuate depending on student demand. Lessons this year have taken place off timetable on Wednesdays from 12:30pm-9:00pm and Thursdays 4:00pm-9:00pm. Our rate of pay for the academic year 2022/23 is £36.75 per hour. Applicants should be suitably qualified and have a relevant degree or vocational qualifications.

Closing date for applications for the above post is noon on Tuesday 13 December 2022.

Applications will, however, be considered on receipt and we reserve the right to close this advertisement earlier than the date stated above should we appoint a suitable candidate.

Interviews will be held in the afternoon on Wednesday 11 January 2023.
