Set in the centre of Tokyo, close to the Imperial Palace and the British Embassy, Phoenix House offers a British prep-school style education based on the National Curriculum of England, for international pupils aged 5 to 11. Phoenix House is the official feeder school for Rugby School Japan.

Each Phoenix takes entrance exams to Rugby School Japan, or other leading senior schools, during Year 5 and Year 6.

Building confidence and enriching the whole school community, our houses - Oak, Rothesay, Snowdon, and Windsor, bring the arts, culture and sports to the heart of Phoenix House. Annual residential visits for all year groups to North Peak, our outdoor enrichment centre in Hokkaido, enliven the curriculum and deepen self confidence through a boarding school experience.

  • Experience of innovative and engaging Primary Art curriculum, lesson design and delivery 
  • Ability to deliver innovative projects and exhibitions across drawing, painting, sculpture and textile media
  • Clear understanding of and appreciation for the effective use of formal formative and summative assessment methods and progress data in Art
  • High creativity and artistic lifestyle expectations, and the ability to effectively differentiate to meet all artistic abilities and needs
  • Ability to make art appreciation and expression high profile across all year groups.
  • Commitment to all artistic aspects of house life including regular small scale as well as larger scale art exhibitions and events
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to wider life of school including art house life and enrichment programmes
  • Determination and ability to supply the best possible creative and artistic experience to each child
  • Willingness, flexibility and the commitment associated with growing a young school and art department
  • An understanding of the high professional and personal expectations working for an independent prep school requires, including periodic weekend school events
  • Excellent organisation, commitment and work ethic
  • Passion for residential outdoor education
