Outwood Academy Haydock is an 11-16 academy, based in the former mining village of Haydock, within the large Merseyside town of St Helens. 

We are looking for outstanding individuals who are enthusiastic, dynamic and inspirational to join our Inclusion Team as a Specialist Teaching Assistant, with a specialism in supporting students with SEND needs.

As a Specialist Teaching Assistant you will be required to work closely with members of our Inclusion Team and have the energy and creativity to develop and inspire students learning. A key focus will be to support student intervention and increase student’s ability to access all areas of the curriculum and embed and develop literacy and numeracy skills, working proactively with other members of the Inclusion Team to improve attainment, by adopting a personalised approach towards planning and delivery of a bespoke curriculum.

The successful candidate will work to support students in all necessary interventions. A key focus will be to increase student’s ability to access all areas of the curriculum. Examples of the work the successful candidate will be expected to deliver are to:

  • Take responsibility for a caseload of students inside and outside of the classroom during structured or unstructured time.
  • Assess the needs of students and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support students’ educational progress and attainment.
  • Deliver intervention programs to individuals and small groups, preparing relevant and appropriate learning experiences in conjunction with the department staff.
  • Track and monitor student life skill targets and/or EHCP outcomes, discussing progress with parents and agreeing new targets/EHCP outcomes at Interim Reviews.

This is a rewarding role, in which you will encourage pupils to become independent learners, provide support for their welfare, and support the inclusion of children in all aspects of academy life. We require someone who is enthusiastic and dynamic and who can work closely with the wider academy team to deliver the support our students may require to reach their full potential.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 6.5 hours a day (32.5 per week)
