Teacher English as an Additional Language/Dialect - McCallums Hill Public School

McCallums Hill Public School is located in South Western Sydney and currently has an enrolment of approximately 324 students, which includes 4 support classes. The school caters for a diverse student enrolment with 87% of students from a non-English speaking background. The school is committed to respecting, promoting and valuing the strength, diversity and richness of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Our students come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. EAL/D teachers provide targeted English language instruction to help students develop their literacy and English language skills. They support students in a number of subject areas across the curriculum. They also support teachers in developing learning programs and teaching practices suited to EAL/D students. The EAL/D teacher at McCallums Hill Public School works as an integral member of the Learning and Support Team. 

Approval to teach infants and/or primary.

Approval to teach primary English as a Second Language or currently completing or currently enrolled in an approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as a Second Language primary as recognised by the NSW Department of Education.

         Demonstrated ability to develop high quality and effective, differentiated teaching and learning programs to maximise the learning outcomes of EAL/D students.

Ability to use assessment tools, ESL scales and EAL/D learning progressions to assess student language development, inform programming and differentiate for student need.  

Demonstrated evidence in collaborating with staff to incorporate evidence based EAL/D strategies into daily classroom practice.

Well-developed communication, organisation and interpersonal skills with a capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and community.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

If applicable engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as a Second Language primary as recognised by the NSW Department of Education, which must be completed within 12 months.
