St Georgeʼs British International School is seeking to appoint an experienced Teacher in Charge of Psychology. The role is available on a permanent, full-time basis commencing in September 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching IB Psychology at both Higher level (HL) and Standard level (SL).

Aims

Duties and Responsibilities 

Teaching and Learning

  • To teach Psychology at IB (Higher level and Standard level)
  • To encourage all pupils to reach their academic potential through enthusiastic and personalised teaching, tailored challenge, rigorous record keeping and follow up
  • To be aware of, and comply with, all the School policies including those for marking and assessment, teaching and learning and reporting
  • To develop and share schemes of work and resources, using in-house formats

Pastoral

  • To demonstrate professional curiosity in relation to each pupils’ well being and welfare, and to foster the personal and social development of each pupil in their care
  • To actively promote the social, moral and cultural ethos of the school community
  • To create an atmosphere of support by being aware of, and fully compliant with, all of the
  • schoolʼs pastoral policies
  • To be familiar with all the schoolʼs policies on Health and Safety and be proactive in
  • ensuring the safety of all members of the school community at all times
  • To promote exemplary behaviour and a responsible attitude amongst pupils
  • To be aware of and act upon all policies regarding the safeguarding of children

Leadership and Management

Lead the subject’s review and improvement planning work by:

■ Providing a vision for learning within the subject

■ Analysing the examination results of students working within the subject and agreeing and implementing action points to ensure high standards of learning & progress

■ Preparing the Department Improvement Plan for Psychology

■ Ensuring high standards of teaching, through support and methods such as lesson visits, addressing any issues where teaching falls below the required standards

■ Ensuring that all courses have schemes of work that enable examination objectives and other whole school objectives such as ToK elements

■ Ensuring that learning is personalised through good use of assessment data and assessment practice and liaising with appropriate colleagues, for example in the EAL and SEN departments

Marketing & Finance

Promote the subject of Psychology and manage its budget by:

■ Producing publicity materials for the subject that may be used for the school website, options booklets, parental information and marketing

■ Ensuring the resources required to deliver the course are; provided to colleagues, stored safely, maintained

■ Keeping records of purchases and ensure the budget is effectively used

Formal Qualifications/Experience

  • A good UK Honours Degree (or equivalent)
  • A certified teaching qualification (i.e. Qualified Teacher Status)
  • A distinguished record of teaching
