Job overview

The vacancy arises from the promotion of the current post holder.

This is a permanent, full-time appointment, effective from 1st September 2024, with a salary payable from MPS1-UPS3. Applications are welcome from teachers at any stage in their career including Early Career Teachers.

We are seeking to appoint a committed & enthusiastic teacher who enjoys working as a member of a team and is constantly seeking ways in which they can improve on their current practice. A positive attitude towards the use of IT is essential.

Experience of teaching a science to A-Level while desirable is not essential. Candidates who do not have experience of A-Level teaching but who would like to develop this aspect of their practice are encouraged to apply.

In addition to the offer of teaching Biology from years 7-13 the successful applicant may be required to teach another science to KS3 or GCSE depending on the skills of the applicant.

The newly appointed member of staff will have responsibility for a form and deliver their fortnightly form period.

Students study Science in Year 7 and separate sciences in Years 8-11. All students study for a separate GCSE qualification in Biology, Chemistry & Physics. All three sciences are very popular A-Level options with three or four teaching sets of each in Years 12 & 13.

There are nine dedicated science laboratories and a science staff room where all science staff have a desk. All staff receive a school laptop for work use. Each science (Biology, Chemistry & Physics) has its own technician and prep room.

The school takes its responsibility for the safety of the students extremely seriously and applicants will be expected to demonstrate a clear understanding of their responsibilities in this area at all stages of the application process. The successful candidate will be required to undertake a DBS check.

Applicants should send a completed school application form, including the names and addresses of two referees, to the Headteacher at vacancies@keaston.bham.sch.uk . No covering letter is needed. A shortened (300 words appx) personal statement as part of the application form would be acceptable given the timeframe.

Please note that references will be obtained prior to the interview. Referees must be able to comment on your ability as a teacher and must include the Head Teacher of the last school or institution in which you were employed except in the case of applicants still in training when one of the two references must be from the course tutor.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school on 0121 327 1130 or at vacancies@keaston.bham.sch.uk if you have any questions that you would like ask about the position or would like to visit the school before submitting an application.

The closing date for applications is 9.00am on Thursday 23rd May 2024

Interviews will be held on Friday 24th May 2024
