Job overview

Temporary until August 2025

We are an Outstanding rated, 11-18 academy based in the cathedral city of Wakefield, near Leeds from where the successful Outwood Grange Family was born; a Trust that has supported 41 schools across phases in the North of England.

We have nurtured a school community that is welcoming and friendly, where students and staff can make excellent progress together, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are well above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Gold Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

We are looking for a full time Teacher of Boys' PE commencing September 2024. We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and inspiring practitioner with a real passion for PE. We offer an exciting opportunity to enhance an already highly successful and motivated team.

Are you an enthusiastic and inspirational PE teacher? If so, this is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher of PE to join our team. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’. The post is suitable for experienced colleagues and those new to the profession.

The PE department has a large facility, consisting of a Sports Hall, Gym, Activity room with 15 Concept 2 rowing machines, a fully equipped fitness suite, full sized astro turf and a 3G pitch along with extensive playing fields. At KS4 we currently offer progression to two popular courses of Sports Studies and GCSE PE which the ideal candidate may have experience in teaching. At KS5 we currently run BTEC Sport however, with the increasing popularity of PE at KS4 we are currently looking to introduce new courses in the near future such as A Level PE to supplement our KS5 curriculum. All specialisms will be considered, however, the ability to teach a wide variety of sports within our broad and balanced curriculum at KS3 and Sports Studies or GCSE PE would be desirable.

Our vision is to always put students first in order to raise standards and transform lives. To make this happen, we innovate constantly, including a curriculum that is designed to enable personalised learning in depth and with breadth. We ensure that additional teaching time and resources are provided to support students to leave with a solid foundation of good and better grades.

With a holistic view of education, we value vocational, practical, creative and academic talent equally and focus on building transferable skills that result in real-world success.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic PE teacher to make a significant contribution to ongoing development of the curriculum and department. You should possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference and have a firm love of your subject and a desire to support our young people to reach their full potential.

Please contact Kat Turner Head of PE by email to k.turner@grange.outwood.com for an informal discussion or to arrange a visit to the academy.

If you genuinely love working with children, will go above and beyond for our young people and want to work as part of an inspirational and dynamic team that are proud to be creating local history, then we would love to hear from you.
