Job overview

The Council and Governors of Haileybury are looking to appoint an outstanding teacher of English for years 7-13, including GCSE, A Level and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The position will suit either an experienced teacher or someone new to the teaching profession.

Haileybury is one of the leading co-educational boarding and day schools in the country and highly respected internationally. We  create a caring and academically stimulating  environment. In our recent ISI Inspection, Haileybury was rated Excellent in all areas. Inspectors commented that, ‘guided by well-planned teaching which supports reflection and academic ambition, pupils take leadership in their learning’ and, ‘for pupils, doing the right thing is taken as a given.’

A willingness to contribute to the extensive and enriching co-curricular and pastoral life of a 24/7 boarding school will be expected.

It is important to us that we have a diverse range of staff able to educate our pupils through the changing 21st century. Appointments will be made on merit.

A highly attractive package and competitive salary scale is offered. Benefits include private healthcare, fee remission and access to our gyms, swimming pool and wellbeing centre. Accommodation may also be available for full-time members of teaching staff. Haileybury is also a member of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.

Haileybury offers a world of opportunity for talented girls and boys who wish to contribute fully to our happy and purposeful community. “We provide a holistic education that balances academic achievement with the development of character, resilience and leadership”

We are academically selective and we expect our pupils to achieve excellent results in public examinations. Most of our pupils take up places at the best universities in the UK and around the world. In addition to providing intellectual rigour and challenge, we provide a holistic education that balances academic achievement with the development of character, resilience and leadership. All of our boys and girls are strongly encouraged to take full advantage of the widest range of co-curricular activities on offer at Haileybury. Participation in these activities stretches the pupils; it promotes a sense of social responsibility, enhances team spirit and engenders confidence.

The bedrock of a Haileybury education is outstanding pastoral care. A nurturing environment and spiritual encouragement underpin all of our endeavours and help shape the distinctive characteristics of Haileyburians.

Our goal is for our young men and women to leave Haileybury fully equipped with the life skills and the academic credentials necessary for them to flourish in a competitive global employment market.

We also hope that they leave the school fulfilled, proud of their achievements and full of compassion for others. If our ethos resonates with you, please do come and visit Haileybury. It would be our pleasure to show you around.
