Job overview
Teacher of English
Strathallan seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and inspiring full-time Teacher of English to join a forward-looking and ambitious department from September 2022. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, skilled teacher with excellent subject knowledge. An ability to teach throughout the age range 7 to 18 (GCSEs, Highers, Advanced Highers and A Levels) will be an advantage although is not essential. Applications are invited from both newly qualified teachers as well as more experienced candidates. Single, on-site accommodation may available if the successful candidate were to be appointed to the role of Resident Tutor in one of the School’s senior boarding houses. The post-holder is expected to uphold and actively promote the ethos of Strathallan and participate in the pastoral and extra-curricular life of our thriving boarding and day school. Further details on this position and the School can be obtained from the attached Candidate Brief.
Our English Department is a thriving and successful department housed in a suite of classrooms in the main building of the school with easy access to the well-stocked library, run by a full-time librarian. All classrooms are fully equipped with electronic whiteboards. Wifi provision is excellent throughout the department and across the wider school campus; we use Microsoft Teams which facilitated the highly successful delivery of live online teaching during recent pandemic related lockdowns. There are currently four full time and three part-time members of staff. We run the AQA GCSE English Language and Literature courses and OCR A Level English Literature courses alongside SQA Highers and Advanced Highers; take-up is strong – English is always one of the most popular subjects at A Level and Higher.
