Job overview

Full-time position but part-time applications will be considered

This opportunity is being advertised following the continued expansion and success of the department. We are an extremely supportive faculty made up of seven members of staff, including a full-time technician. We all have a shared passion for providing students with key knowledge and skills that are required for life beyond the classroom, such as preparing nutritious food safely, understanding positive relationships and making safe lifestyle choices through high-quality learning experiences. Our goal is to enable students to care and support individuals, including themselves.

We have the privilege of teaching a bespoke curriculum of food, health & wellbeing to our KS3 students, which incorporates the mandatory RSE/PSHCE curriculum. We also deliver KS4 GCSE Food, Preparation and Nutrition and both Health & Social Care and Child Care at level 2. At KS5 we deliver level 3 Food Science & Nutrition, Health and Social Care and Child Care, all of which are well established and popular choices at sixth form. Due to continued growth and outstanding outcomes this has given us the opportunity to add additional posts to our friendly and dedicated team.

You will be joining a school that has a vision to be an educational centre of excellence based on the principle that effective relationships are the key to positive outcomes. The staff team has a student-centred approach, and we have a robust teacher education programme. We want to invest in successful applicants and help them progress through their own career. We are looking for candidates who share the same values as us as we continue to grow our team.

Further details of this post and an application form are available on our website: www.dchs-alnwick.org.

Further questions or a virtual discussion or visit can be arranged by emailing the school at admin@dchs-alnwick.uk.

Closing date: Noon on Tuesday 7 May 2024

We are strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. If you are invited for interview, you will be required to disclose convictions that would not be filtered prior to the date of the interview. Certain spent convictions and cautions will be ‘protected’ and do not need to be disclosed. Full details on protected convictions and information about which convictions must be declared during job applications can be found on the Ministry of Justice website. You will be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process.

If your application is successful, this self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure and Barring Service before your appointment is confirmed. This role will include Regulated Activities, and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure is required for this post. An online check will also be carried out on the successful candidate.

About The Duchess's Community High School

We are thrilled that you are interested in joining the team here at DCHS. We took over as Co-Heads in January 2021 with an aim of DCHS being an educational centre of excellence based on the principle that effective

relationships are the key to positive outcomes. We believe that first and foremost we as teachers are here to  provide high quality teaching and support to students within our care, and in doing so we will create a place where students want to be.

We are looking for team players who have a student centred approach as well as a desire to be part of a robust teacher education programme. We have a considerate approach to staff workload and are committed  to investing in staff to help them progress through their own career, and in doing so create a place where staff want to work.

We are passionate that the term ‘community’ within our title is significant and cannot be undersold or underplayed. We believe that every member of staff at DCHS should leave the community in a better position than the point they arrived here and ask that, if you are to join us, you share this belief. We believe that at DCHS, community works.

We have included everything we feel is important to share in the recruitment packs and we welcome requests from anyone interested in these positions to contact us to visit in person, meet over a video call or chat on the phone about these opportunities.
