Job overview
We are passionate about excellence in education, giving students the very best start in life with a firm belief that excellent teaching transforms lives. Our core belief is that for all students to have high aspirations they must believe in themselves, be actively engaged in their learning and see the connection between what they learn today and who they want to become tomorrow.
We wish to add capacity to our talented team of teachers through appointing an excellent Teacher of History with ambition to both hone their craft and develop others. Each of our teachers plays a key role in driving success for our students.
We are looking for an exceptional individual to play an important role in our unique and growing Academy. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher of History and will also play an important pastoral role in leading an Academic Mentoring (Tutor) group.
They will be a skilled practitioner with the capacity to develop into a lead teacher in the humanities area coaching others to improve their practice. For the right candidate, there is the opportunity to enter the academy as an Aspirant Lead Practitioner, taking on a signficicant departmental and whole academy responsibility. This can lead to formal accreditation as a Lead Practitioner paid on the Leadership Scale.
It will be an exciting opportunity for an NQT or someone wishing to further develop their career or an experienced practitioner looking to deepen their impact in a new context.

Values and vision
As a result of outstanding teaching, an engaging curriculum, personalised pastoral care and excellent extra-curricular opportunities, students at Rivers Academy are better qualified, more confident and articulate than ever before. This is crucial as the competition for post-16 courses, apprenticeships, jobs and university places intensifies annually. Staff enjoy knowing that students leave well prepared for successful future careers with excellent qualifications, high levels of self-esteem, confidence and the skills necessary to thrive in a very competitive world.
Each post-16 student has an academic mentor, with whom they meet daily and who supports them through the undeniable demands and challenges of post-16 study. Around 85% of Year 13 students embark on university courses, many at the highly competitive Russell Group universities.
Ofsted report
“Students are encouraged to believe that they can achieve high standards and make excellent progress. Consequently, they set themselves high aspirations. They are supported to make good choices and are, therefore, well prepared for the next stage of their lives.” “Staff value the exceptional training opportunities provided to them by the school. Staff regularly attend courses run in school to improve teaching and learning, and are involved in mentoring and coaching programmes. Training is carefully matched to meet teachers’ needs.”
