Job overview

We are seeking an exceptional Math's teacher to join a strong, stable and creative subject team, which is committed to achieving excellent outcomes for all our students and developing in students a real passion for the subject.

The department aims to stimulate and maintain students’ interest and enjoyment of Mathematics, creating an atmosphere where students are able to make rapid progress. We also seek to enable each student to fulfil his/her potential and use all available resources to ensure deep understanding of mathematics.

The department has worked together to improve outcomes through effective differentiation and team planning. There is a new Scheme of Learning for Key Stages 3 and 4 focusing on improving understanding in numeracy and algebra, allowing for the progress of all students whilst offering opportunities for extension and challenge.

The department are now working towards continuing to improve our positive Progress 8 measure in 2021.

Staff

There are 11 specialist mathematics teachers in the department who teach across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 along with a further one part-time teacher teaching KS5. All staff work as a dynamic, dedicated, supportive and successful team.

Resources

The department is very well resourced. There are promethean interactive whiteboards in each classroom using the Active Inspire software. The classrooms can be opened up to create bigger working spaces for team teaching.

We offer in-house CPD during department meetings and have extensive opportunities for external CPD and training.

Key Stage 3

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 are taught in ability sets, and have 7 hourly lessons over a fortnight. Years 7, 8 and 9 follow a mastery programme of study incorporating consistent modelling, intelligent practice and strategic interleaving.

Key Stage 4

In Key Stage 4, students are taught in ability sets and have 9 hourly lessons a fortnight. All students study the Edexcel Linear course.

Post 16

GCE Advanced level mathematics is a consistently popular choice in our Sixth Form, with two groups in Year 12 and two groups in Year 13. Further Mathematics and Core Maths (AS Level) are also offered to students.

Extra-Curricular Activities

There is a very popular ‘strategy club’ which runs every Friday afternoon after school where students take part in a large variety of strategic games including chess, Warhammer, pokemon and card games.

Throughout the year there are trips and lectures to encourage students to continue to study mathematics in our Sixth Form and beyond.

Introduction from the Headteacher

Thank you for the interest you have shown in the recently advertised post at our school.

Pudsey Grammar School is a heavily oversubscribed mixed comprehensive secondary school located in the heart of the market town of Pudsey. Situated between Leeds and Bradford the town has valued its independence from its two larger neighbours. The school has 1200 students with a thriving Sixth Form of 250 students all taught in a state of the art building. The innovative and unique design of the building creates a calm atmosphere very different to many secondary schools.

The school has a long tradition in the town, being established as Pudsey Grammar School in 1908. Although the school is taught in a state of the art building, our core values are highly traditional based on the goal of ensuring that every student reaches their true potential. Our school is not just about the students gaining knowledge and qualifications although these are extremely important. We believe in teaching young people core values of decency, social skills and how to be a good citizen in an ever changing world.  We want their character to develop and grow and for them to leave us with an inquiring and independent mind. We want our students to gain the best qualifications they are capable of whilst experiencing a range of opportunities which are second to none. As a result, the school is extremely popular with our community and is significantly over-subscribed every year.

Our Sixth Form has grown in recent years and we now have 250 post-16 students studying at Pudsey Grammar School. This allows us to run a range of courses and provides our staff with valuable experience teaching subjects at this level.

Our staff are exceptional in their dedication and commitment to the students. Relationships in the school are extremely strong and this underpins the ethos of the school.  Teaching and learning is the key focus of the organisation and everything that we do is designed to ensure that the classroom experience for the students is excellent.

We pride ourselves in the fantastic support and professional development that we offer to staff which ensures that they are equipped with all the necessary skills to deliver excellent lessons to the students on a daily basis.

The school is a foundation Trust school and our partners include global companies such as HSBC bank, the IT company RM, Warwick University which is member of the Russell Group of UK universities, alongside leading local business and training providers Appris and the Place group. The school has already felt the benefit with many staff completing MAs through Warwick University. We will be further developing the work of the Trust over the next year so that more staff and students experience the benefits of these excellent links.

There are many positive comments in our Ofsted report 2019 such as:

* Progress made by pupils has accelerated considerably in the last 2 years.

* There is a calm and purposeful atmosphere about the school.

* Behaviour in lessons is good. Pupils settle quickly and show positive attitudes to their  learning.
