The Governors of this high achieving, oversubscribed Catholic Voluntary Academy seek to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified teacher of Music to join our successful department. You will join an outstanding Performing Arts team who lead a busy extra-curricular programme.

The Music Department is a vital and vibrant part of school life, providing many opportunities for students in both curriculum lessons and extra-curricular activities. Music also plays an important part in the school’s liturgical life and supports mass and worship throughout the year.

All students study Music in Years 7, 8 and 9 with lessons integrating the activities of composing, performing, listening and appraising through the elements of music. Music is a popular option at GCSE level with a wide range of instrumentalists choosing the subject. The Music department also shares a close relationship with St. Aidan’s Church of England High School as part of our Associated Sixth Form, thus benefitting from above average class sizes for both Music and Music Technology at A Level.

The extra curricular opportunities in the school are extensive, offering a variety of ensembles with something for everyone. These include: 3 Choirs, Jazz orchestra, Concert Band, Junior Band, String Ensemble, Flute Choir, Guitar Group and many other student led ensembles.

We also offer instrumental lessons on all instruments and employ all of our own private peripatetic teachers, meaning a more streamlined, cheaper and effective system. Current teachers include session musicians, professional performers and ABRSM and Rock School examiners.

What are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have a true appreciation of many different styles of music and have experience of leading an ensemble. There will also be the opportunity to deliver Music to A Level and to lead and develop extra-curricular activities.

This appointment provides the opportunity to teach well-motivated, hard-working students. You will join a forward-thinking and high-achieving department and be committed to delivering genuinely imaginative, engaging and varied lessons.

What can we offer you?

  • Employee discount scheme (offering cycle to work scheme, gym membership, money saving offers across hundreds of the UK’s favourite high-street and online retailers, home and electrical items).
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (Education Support).
  • On-site parking and access to canteen.
  • Teacher Pension Scheme.
  • A supportive organisation with the commitment to professional development and wellbeing.

St John Fisher is part of the Bishop Wheeler Catholic Academy Trust, which consists of 2 high schools and 14 primary schools.

If you would like the opportunity to meet us or have an informal discussion, please contact Paula Deacon, Office Manager at office@sjfchs.org.uk to arrange this.

Further details including a job description, person specification and how to apply are available via the Trust website https://www.bishopwheelercatholicacademytrust.org/Trust-Academy-Vacancies/

  • Closing date:     Monday 13 May 2024, 9.00am
  • Interview date: TBC

Our school is committed to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

In line with KCSiE 2023, we will carry out an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates. This may help identify any matters that are publicly available online, which we might want to explore with you at interview.
