Didcot Girls’ School – Committed to Excellence
‘Staff have exceptional opportunities for professional development. Staff feel valued and really like working in the school. Morale is very high.' Ofsted, December 2015
Teacher of Science
We seek an inspirational Science Teacher, someone who is full of energy and infectious enthusiasm for their subject and who wants to make a real difference to young people’s lives. Didcot Girls’ School was evaluated as Outstanding by Ofsted in December 2015: we are committed to providing an excellent all girls’ education which enables our students to become resilient, confident and articulate future leaders – who love Science! Our emphasis is on achieving outstanding academic results whilst providing students with a rich curriculum that offers engaging opportunities to apply Science in context. We are happy to accept applications from candidates from any of the three Science specialisms although a Chemist would be desirable. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high performing and hugely supportive Science team in an exciting school. With a strong emphasis on CPD and a culture of collaboration, we offer a supportive and dynamic environment in which to develop and further your career. Additional leadership responsibility is possible for the right candidate.
GCSE results this summer were superb once more, placing the school in the top 20% of schools nationally for both progress (provisional P8 of +0.39) and attainment (provisional A8 of 50.54). 74% of our 179 Year 11 students achieved a Grade 9 - 4 (equivalent of Grade C) and above in English and Maths. Results at the highest levels are also outstanding across all subjects and 31 students achieved 6 or more grades at A*/A or grade 7-9.
In 2016, GCSE Science results were ‘Sig+’ (significantly above) national averages for pupil progress across Additional, Core and Triple Science. Whilst progress figures are currently provisional for 2017, achievement is strong with 75% of students across all Sciences and over 94% of students in Triple Sciences achieving A*-C grades. A level results in Physics, Chemistry and Biology are strong and on an upwards trajectory. Students are actively engaged with Science and enjoy the challenges and opportunities it presents.
We have thriving Science clubs; students regularly win national competitions. Our close links with Harwell and Culham Science Parks and Oxford University create exceptional enrichment opportunities. We are very proud of these successes and attribute them to inspirational leadership and teaching, a growth mindset and lots of hard work!
We work in partnership with St Birinus, the boys’ school in Didcot, in our multi-academy trust, the Didcot Academy of Schools and we share a large mixed sixth form of some 350 students with the boys’ school. All three Sciences are taught very successfully across both sites. As part of our drive to promote STEM careers to women, we encourage as many girls as possible to study Science at A level and we are proud that half of the A level Physics cohort are female.
If you share our growth mindset approach to learning and life then we would love to hear from you. Application forms and further details are available from the Head of School’s PA, Frances Adley at fadley@didcotgirls.oxon.sch.uk
Didcot Girls’ School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

About Didcot Girls' School
Didcot Girls’ School is a dynamic school. In November 2022, the school was judged to be Outstanding. As Ofsted recognised, we invest in all of our staff:
‘Leaders support staff very well. They have established a collaborative and respectful working environment. With the trust, they provide highly valued training and leadership programmes. Staff are exceptionally proud to work at the school.’
Ofsted also noted the high standards within the school and commented that ‘Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary’.
We are a values-driven school, committed to high quality teaching and learning and respectful relationships within an inclusive learning community. Developing stimulating and student-centred teaching and learning is at the centre of our school development work. We work hard to ensure that all girls’ education enables our students to develop confidence, leadership skills and high levels of aspiration.
Summer 2024 GCSE results were superb with 81% of all students achieving 4+ in English and Maths, and 66% doing the same at 5+. Results at A level in the mixed sixth form shared with our partner school, St Birinus School, are also extremely strong with 30% of grades awarded as A* or A and 62% achieving Grades A*-B. These results place us as one of the highest performing schools in the county.
Didcot Girls’ School is heavily committed to recognising and maximising the potential of all of its students, and so operated a strong curriculum based around high-quality teaching in core subjects. The school also encouraged students to be outgoing and strong-willed, with a number of opportunities available for them to test their leadership skills, through things such as the School Council and Leadership Ladder. The personal growth of pupils is considered to be a crucial part of their ability to function well in further education or employment when they leave school post-16.
