Job overview

As Second in Department for Physical Education, you will play a central role in this next chapter. You will ensure that the curriculum offer within physical education is excellent and that this contributes to the Health and Wellbeing offer that is the heartbeat of the school. At MCA, we are proud of the central role that physical education, health and wellbeing play in shaping the experience and success of our young people. Our PE department delivers an ambitious and inclusive curriculum that promotes participation, resilience, leadership and excellence, ensuring that all students develop the knowledge, confidence and habits needed to lead healthy and active lives.

Alongside this, our Health and Wellbeing provision is a significant strength of the academy. Through a highly coordinated approach that brings together pastoral care, personal development, safeguarding and enrichment, we place the wellbeing of students at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to ensuring that every young person is safe, happy, healthy and loved so that they are able to thrive both academically and personally.

This work has been recognised nationally through our partnership work, sector leadership and contribution to wider conversations around wellbeing in education. MCA has been recognised as a Beacon ‘Well School’, as part of our collaboration with the Youth Sport Trust, reflecting our commitment to creating a culture where health, wellbeing and achievement are fully interconnected. This is in addition to being recently awarded ‘School of the Year’ at the Manchester Sports Awards.

At MCA, we believe in the transformative power of knowledge to create equitable opportunities. Our ambitious and carefully designed curriculum ensures that students are equipped to succeed academically, socially and morally. We invest heavily in professional development, drawing on our EEF Research School to provide staff with the very best evidence informed practice. You will be joining a team that is deeply committed to continual improvement, where high expectations are matched by strong support, and where leaders at all levels are developed to thrive. We are unapologetically ambitious for our students and our staff.

Application Deadline: 8am Monday 18th May 2026.
