Job overview

We are seeking an energetic, compassionate, patient and skilled 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to join our supportive and dedicated team at Heathside School.  

In this vital role, you will work closely with a pupil in Year 1 helping them to access the curriculum, develop independence, and achieve their personal goals.

Working mainly in the classroom setting, you will be responsible for adapting the curriculum to the needs of the child, with the support of an outstanding class teacher who has ten years experience in teaching mixed ability classes and has particular expertise in working with children with additional needs, identifying what motivates them and help them progress.

The child is sunny, calm and has a great sense of humour, and is a well established member of the warm school community.

You will also attend speech therapy and occupational therapy sessions held during school hours, and help to implement the strategies from these sessions into school time.

The school has a particularly strong outdoor learning curriculum with forest school and multiple Heath visits each week.

You will collaborate with parents, teaching staff and therapists to help ensure consistent and holistic support.

Previous experience of working with children with communication challenges is a prerequisite. The child is currently pre-verbal and the successful candidate should have understanding of adaptive technologies used to support communication and learning.

This is a full-time, term time only, one year fixed term contract.

Salary:  £35,000 to £40,000

Start date: To start as soon as possible once all the necessary vetting checks have successfully been completed.
