We are currently seeking a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant in our Junior School (ages 6-11) to support a primary-aged pupil, helping them to navigate the school day, manage emotions and to build positive peer interactions.

Our Learning Support Assistant will ideally provide a calm presence when a pupil feels overwhelmed, helping them to stay regulated and engaged with their learning.  This is completed under the leadership, planning and direction of the class teacher and Learning Support coordinator.   

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide support and assistance to class teachers in the day to day operating environment of the  classroom 

  • Work in partnership with the class teacher to help support the teaching and learning in the  classroom; this can involve working with individual children or groups

  • Complete any tasks that could be reasonably expected of the position that support the children  and the classroom environment as requested by the class teacher

  • Perform any other reasonable duties prescribed by the leadership team of the school  

  • Comply with Health & Safety regulations  

  • Comply with the school’s requirements for storage and security of pupil records and maintain confidentiality at all times  

  • Take part in the wider life of the school e.g. attending school assemblies 

  • Supervise playtimes or lunchtime duties (when required to do so)  

  • Attend lunchtime supervisors meetings, staff meetings and the yearly INSET training  

  • Keep up-to-date with school information e.g. bulletins, minutes of meetings  

  • Help maintain & organise resources in the school pertaining to the child(ren) you work with   

  • Keep the school team up-to-date with a focus on the child’s needs

Further Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example and set high expectations in all professional matters

  • Be a team player who puts the needs of the children, the team and the school first  

  • Support the work of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and create a safe learning environment for all

  • Support and uphold the mission, vision and values of the School  

  • Be a role model for others &  act at all times in accordance with the school’s policies & procedures

Experience and Skills

  • Supporting primary-school aged children (ages 5 - 11)

  • Working in a school, club or childcare setting

  • Experience of working with children with diverse learning or emotional needs

  • Experience of specifically providing 1:1 assistance (preferred) 

  • Experience of working as part of a successful, supportive team

  • Teaching qualification (useful)

  • Embody kindness, empathy and patience when building a 1:1 connection with a pupil

  • Positivity communicating with parents and stakeholders

  • Commitment to safeguarding, pupil well-being and to providing exceptional pastoral care

  • Ability to work within and apply all school policies eg. child protection, health and safety, behaviour and assessment
