We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and helpful LSA to work 1:1 with a child and to join our well established and successful school.


The successful candidate will need to be a confident and a caring professional, able to form excellent relationships with parents, pupils and colleagues.


Salary scale: From £1700 per month

Full-time - 7.5 hrs per day

Fixed term/permanent – Fixed term (Two terms, but possibility to be increased subject to additional needs of the school).

Responsible to: Headteacher/SENCo



Purpose of the job


- To work with teachers to support teaching and learning by working with individuals or small groups of pupils under the direction of teaching staff.

- To be responsible for learning activities within the overall teaching plan.

- To contribute to the promotion and development of an integrated, inclusive education that offers high quality experiences for children with speech and language, sensory and physical needs.


Main duties

- Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the SENCo and teacher, adjusting activities according to pupils’ individual targets.

- Work closely and build a relationship with the child, their family and other professionals to develop a thorough understanding of the child’s individual needs..

- Support the teacher in monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress/activities.

-  Provide feedback to pupils under the guidance of the teacher.

- Create and differentiate supportive learning materials under the direction of the teacher.

- Support the child in building and maintaining relationships with peers to support social and emotional well-being, feeding back to the teacher as appropriate.

- Use a range of methods to help the child understand what is required in the classroom to develop both independent and group learning.

- Help the child to access and engage with the whole class teaching and learning.

-  Liaise with outside agencies (such as Speech and Language and Occupational Therapists), with the support of the SENCO, and implement suggested strategies in class.

- Disseminate information provided by specialist teachers and outside agencies, to other teaching staff, supported by the SENCO, as appropriate.

- Ensure that all members of staff are familiar with the child’s needs and most effective support strategies within the classroom.

- Attend to pupils’ personal needs, including social, health, hygiene, first-aid and welfare matters.

- Assist with the planning and delivery of learning plans (or other pupil-specific plans) including Education and Health Care Plans.

- Monitor and evaluate pupils’ progress and maintain pupil records.

- Use specialist knowledge or experience to support pupils’ learning.



- Assist with the planning and delivery of individual development plans (or other pupil-specific

plans).

- Assist the class teacher in managing the classroom environment to enable the child to fully access the curriculum.

- Identify and implement strategies to encourage independence across all areas of school life.

- Support the child on school trips and outings.

- Attend meetings in school and with other professionals as necessary.

- Identify and use the appropriate ICT and other assistive software to support the child.

- Offer support and regular feedback to the family.

- Fulfill a range of administrative and other duties associated with the post, e.g. record keeping.


Key Skills and Knowledge

- Has experience of working with children as a Learning Support Assistant or similar.

- Has knowledge of a range of different special education needs such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Speech and Language, Dyscalculia etc.

- Has a good understanding of safeguarding practices and a commitment to ensuring best outcomes for all children.

The specific duties attached to any individual are subject to annual review and may, after discussion with the Principals/Headteacher, be changed.
