The role

Smart Teachers are recruiting for a full-time 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a ‘Good School’ in Hammersmith and Fulham. This is an ideal role for an experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant who is looking for a new opportunity in a mainstream school or a Psychology Graduate who wishes to pursue a career in Educational Psychology.  The successful 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant will be working with a young boy in Year 1, diagnosed with Autistic Syndrome Disorder (ASD). As part of his diagnosis, the pupil is non-verbal, will struggle to settle in after the summer break and can be behaviourally challenging. Once a rapport has been built, however, the pupil can easily access the curriculum with consistent support and patience. The successful 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant will feel comfortable to work with challenging behaviours, will be able to use visual story boards and social stories to help communicate with the pupil and will be able to use the pupils’ interests to help build a rapport and in turn support with academic and social progression.

The school

The school adopt a caring approach to help build pupils social and academic development. The school is diverse which is celebrated, and family members play an active role in supporting their children, which is a pivotal factor in pupils learning behaviour and engagement within lessons. Art and physical education are two specialist subjects which are encouraged and focussed upon to allow for a fruitful education. In addition to this, the school organises lots of school trips to help make education enriching and exciting as well as practical, especially for those pupils that struggle to access the curriculum. Regular training is provided for the staff to ensure that they feel comfortable and resourced to provide top quality education, which is highlighted in the pupils’ results. The classrooms are relatively large, allow lots of light and are brightened up by colourful walls and pupils work. The playgrounds are well resourced, reinforcing a balanced education, allowing for fun playtimes!

To be considered for the 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant  position, you must:

• Have experience working with SEN pupils, ideally non-verbal ASD

• Have recent or past experience working in KS1

• Hold strong behavioural management skills

• Have a passion for supporting pupils who are behind in their learning
