Kingshott School is set on the outskirts of Hitchin, Hertfordshire and provides an outstanding co-educational learning experience for just over 400 children aged 3 to 13.  Since 2004, major improvements have been made to the School’s facilities including a purpose built Nursery, Pre-Prep and Middle school.  Most recently, we opened the Robinson building, a state of the art teaching block which offers a sizeable, bright and airy art room, a dedicated music room, food technology room, science laboratory, IT suite, nine teaching class rooms and additional changing rooms.

Learning is a continuous part of our lives, and what better place to start than in our Nursery.  Children are naturally inquisitive and, when immersed in the stimulating and interesting environment, they cannot help but learn.

The curriculum in our Reception classes recognises that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.  Small class sizes and high staffing ratios ensure that every child is treated as an individual, enabling teaching staff to pinpoint the next step in each child’s learning journey.

The Pre-Prep offers a structured and caring environment where children thrive in a warm happy atmosphere whilst providing each child with the opportunities to develop independence, self-confidence, self-discipline and self-esteem.  Language development and numeracy feature prominently in a broad academic curriculum.  Music, French and PE are taught by specialist teachers.

Years in the Prep part of the school are characterised by maturing independence which sees the children begin to move out of their classroom bases in our Ashbrook building and enjoy the resources of our Robinson building.  This facility also offers specialist teaching rooms for Maths, English, French, History, Geography and Latin.

Our pupils have an outstanding record of successes in Senior School examinations and in achieving Scholarships.  Setting in core subjects allows for concentrated differentiation enabling individuals work to work to fulfil their potential.  Our senior pupils have the opportunity to hold positions of responsibility in areas of sport, pastoral care and leadership.  These positions play a vital role in building future leaders while serving the School community.  We are very proud of the number of comments made by Senior Schools as to their excellent work ethic, good manners, confidence and academic standards.

All pupils in Year 3 to Year 8 go on a residential trip.  Seen as an extension of the curriculum, these trips are designed to offer new challenges and develop self-confidence and personal responsibility.

The creative arts are alive and well at Kingshott.  Our Art, Music and Drama rooms provide the best possible opportunity for our pupils to express individualism and creativity.

We believe that physical activity, in addition to being the cornerstone to a healthy life style, offers so many opportunities to learn about others and ourselves.  From our Nursery class to Year 8, timetabled P.E. and Games lessons are taught by specialists.
