Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a bright and innovative individual to take on a leadership role within the Humanities department at George Mitchell All-through School. The successful candidate will support the Curriculum Leader for Humanities with the leadership and management of the range of subjects covered by the department and will be a highly committed, motivated and passionate teacher who can lead by example.

We are looking for a candidate who will maintain a relentless focus on strategies to sustain the highest quality of teaching and learning in Humanities to achieve outstanding outcomes. You will be able to lead, strategically plan and motivate both students and teachers to achieve their full potential. This is a unique opportunity for a talented individual to help build an outstanding department, bringing RE, History, Geography and Citizenship together to create exciting humanities provision within the school. We are particularly keen to hear from Geography specialists but all candidates will need to be prepared to teach in more than one subject and teach Geography to GCSE level.

George Mitchell is aspiring to be an outstanding school, and we welcome colleagues who want to join us, and our students, on that journey. Behaviour for Learning is very good, and there is an enthusiastic emphasis on good outcomes for our students who hail from a richly diverse area, with many ethnic groups and languages represented. We are very much a community school at the heart of a local neighbourhood, and we provide a haven in which our children feel safe, valued and happy. Each child at George Mitchell is special and we do our utmost to ensure that each student is given every opportunity to learn and succeed.

George Mitchell is well served by public transport and we are currently planning for a new build to be completed in 2017 - this will include brand new humanities facilities.

We have a comprehensive induction programme and excellent professional development opportunities. We are committed to the task of continuing to raise standards.

We warmly welcome an informal visit or a conversation prior to application.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Offer of a position is subject to receiving satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS Clearance
