Job overview

We are looking for a 2 i/c RE to join our large department team in order to support the delivery of outstanding outcomes for students in RE. This is an excellent opportunity for professional development in leading and supporting a department team and would be suitable for someone who is keen to run their own department in the near future. The new post-holder will fulfil the role from September 2023.

RE is a core subject at Twyford CofE High School, forming a foundational part of our students’ education across all Key Stages. All students at KS4 study for GCSE RE (AQA) and our Sixth Form provides opportunity for A Level (OCR) and wider RE provision. The post-holder will be joining an innovative, ambitious and supportive RE department that works collaboratively to create a curriculum that inspires, challenges and nurtures students, using ambitious outcomes, and leading to thorough subject knowledge and sustained progress.

The success of the RE department is exemplified by our 2022 GCSE results:

  • 35% of all students achieved a grade 9
  • 73% of all students achieved grades 7-9
  • 96% of all students achieved grades 5-9

In addition to delivering outstanding learning in a core subject, the RE department also has close links with the Chaplaincy, SMSC and Wider Learning teams within the school – offering further opportunities for the post-holder to impact wider school life in diverse and meaningful ways.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with the drive to contribute to a team committed to achieving outstanding results for all students irrespective of ability. S/he will be enthused by the prospect of maintaining a student learning culture within the department which is both engaging and aspirational.

  • A good degree and QTS.
  • Proven record of outstanding results.
  • Outstanding skills as a classroom teacher and as a tutor.
  • Some experience of implementing curriculum planning and development systems and initiatives.
  • Some experience of managing others / managing change is desirable but not necessary.
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement.

 Twyford CE High School, Acton

Twyford CE High School was set up by the LDBS in 1981. The school has an excellent reputation and is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted (May 2012) and SIAMS (April 2017). It has developed specialisms in Music and Modern Foreign Languages, as well as a large and highly successful Sixth Form in which Maths, Science and Computing are the largest areas. Since its inception the school has grown considerably and now admits around 975 students aged 11 to 16, and an additional 500 students to the Sixth Form.

The Twyford Trust comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. The Twyford Trust aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting, and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the Trust is the overarching organisation which provides support for all Trust schools. The Trust has a highly evolved common curriculum which has been devised by staff within the four schools.
