The Role
We are seeking an experienced Head of Middle School (Collège) to join our Senior Leadership Team and lead the Middle School (Collège) section. The Head of Collège provides overall educational and organisational leadership, ensuring a coherent student experience, a positive school culture, and effective alignment between teaching, operations, and pastoral needs.
This role works in close collaboration with:
the Head of Teaching & Learning (Collège), who leads pedagogy and professional development;
the Head of Collège Operations, who manages daily logistics, coordination and timetables.
The Head of Collège does not lead curriculum development but ensures the successful implementation and coherence of school expectations across the section.
Key Responsibilities
1. Section Leadership & Educational Culture
Provide strong, visible and consistent leadership across the Collège.
Uphold high expectations for behaviour, routines, and culture.
Ensure alignment with whole-school priorities and strategic direction.
Act as a central point of authority and coherence for staff, students and families.
2. Coordination Between Pedagogy and Operations
Work closely with the Head of Teaching & Learning to support teaching quality and consistency (without curriculum responsibility).
Collaborate with the Head of Collège Operations to ensure smooth day-to-day organisation.
Ensure coherence between academic expectations, pastoral needs, and operational realities.
Resolve issues that require senior judgement and cross-team coordination.
3. Student Life, Safeguarding & Pastoral Care
Ensure a safe, positive and inclusive environment.
Oversee behaviour systems, attendance, pastoral support, and student wellbeing.
Co-lead safeguarding processes, training, and compliance.
Handle complex or sensitive student and family cases with professionalism and care.
4. Accreditation, Compliance & Standards
Support the school’s accreditation processes and quality assurance requirements.
Ensure that section policies and practices meet relevant educational standards.
Prepare documentation, lead staff briefings and support accreditation visits.
Monitor actions linked to accreditation feedback.
5. Student Experience & Enrichment
Ensure a coherent and inspiring student journey throughout the Collège.
Develop enrichment programmes, competitions, clubs, and leadership opportunities.
Coordinate community engagement and volunteering initiatives.
Validate and support educational trips and residentials.
6. Staff Leadership & Professional Development
Lead, support, and hold to account staff within the Collège section.
Participate in teacher recruitment and onboarding.
Work with the Head of Teaching & Learning to support staff development.
Ensure strong communication, clarity of expectations, and consistency of practice.
7. Family Partnership, Communication & Representation
Act as the primary point of contact for Collège parents.
Lead parent-teacher meetings, reports, newsletters, and key communications.
Support marketing and admissions through presentations, visits, and events.
Represent the Collège both internally and externally.
The Ideal Candidate
Significant experience in a senior school leadership role (Head / Deputy Head / Assistant Head / Senior Middle School Leader).
Strong background in pastoral care, behaviour systems, and staff leadership.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage complex environments.
Calm, authoritative, collaborative, and solution-focused.
Experience in an international, bilingual, and/or independent school setting is an advantage.
Familiarity with the French educational system.
Native or near-native English speaker.
Has the right to work in France (preferred).
