A High School English teacher is required to teach within Grades 9-12. In grades 9 and 10, our classes study a homespun English curriculum, rooted in the IB philosophy and learner profile, that has been designed to prepare them for the demands of IB and / or for their future studies in university, both in Turkey and abroad. Our students are assessed in English as a first language and the department uses the study of Literature as a springboard to teach and assess language skills. As our high school students may have entered the school in kindergarten, grade 1, grade 5 or grade 9, we have students of varying English abilities and therefore differentiate our instruction to accommodate the needs of our diverse learners.   

The position will be to teach several different levels within the high school English program and may include teaching IB English A: Language and Literature. The school delivers the bilingual qualification at IB Diploma level and our students choose the IB or Turkish national curriculum track when they enter 11th grade. 

 Summary of Main Responsibilities:

Design units, lessons and assessments that are aligned with our English standards, school mission and SEL goals
Deliver high-quality, student-centred instruction that responds to the needs of the diverse learners in the class
Provide timely, meaningful feedback to students throughout each unit of study
Maintain high standards for learners and provide the support and scaffolding to help them achieve those standards
Assess student learning in a variety of ways, adapt teaching based on the information gained, and monitor and evaluate the progress of students who are not meeting standards
Communicate regularly with parents to ensure they are informed of their child’s development in English
Work collaboratively with level leaders, Head of Department, Assessments and Evaluation department, and Academic Dean
Participate actively in the life of the school by attending events and leading extracurricular activities
Any other duties as requested by the school leadership team
 The successful candidate will demonstrate

An ongoing interest in pedagogy and all aspects of teaching and learning
A willingness to contribute positively to the collaborative culture of the English department and of the school as a whole
Excellent, native or native-like fluency in English with strong oral and written communication skills
Outstanding interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively and positively with all members of the schoıol community
Competence in the integration of technology in lessons
An ability and willingness to incorporate Social Emotional Learning within the framework of the English curriculum
Effective problem-solving skills and an ability to adapt to necessary changes 
Required qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in English / English Literature and professional teaching qualification is required.
A minimum of two years of teaching experience in high school English is essential.
Knowledge, understanding and experience in the teaching of IB English A: Language and Literature is preferred.
A proven commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people is required.
