About Lanna International School Thailand

Lanna International School Thailand (Lanna) is one of the largest and longest established international schools in Chiang Mai. It was founded in 1993 to serve all families in the Thai and international communities of Chiang Mai by providing quality education in a coeducational, non-sectarian English-medium international school setting.

Lanna delivers a British style education based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales, adapted to more fully meet the needs of our environment and our school population of students from Early Years to Year 13. We prioritise the recruitment of highly qualified and experienced British and International staff.

The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum which is supported by a strong team of specialist teachers and assistants. External assessments and examinations are taken by students in Y4, 5, and 6 using ISA (International Schools Assessment), Y11 (IGCSE) and Y12/13 (AS/A Levels). These are administered by the Cambridge International Examinations and Edexcel Boards. Lanna is accredited by WASC, licensed by the Thai Ministry of Education, is a member of the East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS), and since 2005 has been a Cambridge University International Examination Centre.

From its beginning, Lanna has encouraged applications from students of diverse cultural, academic and linguistic backgrounds, and welcomes students from around thirty different nationalities, speaking seventeen languages. Emphasising internationalism at its very essence, Lanna believes that the diversity of its student body is one of its greatest strengths and helps to support the school’s mission to prepare its students to be responsible world citizens.

Lanna believes that our student-centred programme of study and extensive range of extracurricular activities provide our students with the challenges that enable them to reach their full potential academically, socially, emotionally and physically. In a school like Lanna with a rich cultural diversity, the values imparted are of great importance for later life. We seek to instill in our student's tolerance, dignity and respect for others. We strive to ensure that our students act both responsibly and independently whether at school or in the community outside. Lanna’s Schoolwide Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are the foundations of the type learners we aim for and are embedded throughout the teaching and learning in each year group.

Lanna International School has grown so much since its conception in 1993 with the opening of new Primary School Campus in 2018 and the new Early Years Complex opening in 2019. Catering for over 600 students, Lanna is a supportive and caring environment for all, where no challenge is too big, and no dream is beyond arm’s reach.
