Reporting to the Head of School, the School Head assumes the responsibility of formulating a comprehensive school development strategy encompassing both long-term and short-term goals along with leading the team to achieve these goals in each school year.
Key Responsibilities:
To support the language needs of ESL students so that they can successfully access English language acquisition as quickly as possible.
Planning and teaching ESL lessons to a group of mixed level and ability learners (some with little to no English)
To teach some English lessons within the curriculum where appropriate.
To work with ESL students and those students who struggle with English individually and in small groups within subject lessons to support learning in subject areas.
Attending planning meetings with class teachers to share innovative and successful ideas and strategies to employ with ESL learners as well as planning and preparing differentiated ESL materials for push-in sessions with class teachers to support and teach ESL learners in class
Delivering high quality lessons for parallel teaching sessions, ensuring language needs of the students are addressed and students make good progress.
Conducting consistent speaking, listening, reading and writing assessments to track ESL learners’ progress.
To write and develop IEP’s for all EAL students to support their learning needs.
Develop learner focused relationships to ensure that the EAL/ESL learners feel safe, respected and are not afraid of asking for help and making mistakes
Demonstrated experience providing ESL support within mainstream subject classrooms
Experience working with East Asian learners
Qualification & Experiences:
Bachelor’s degree or recognised postgraduate qualification
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching, education, school administration, curriculum development, and observation and evaluation practices, including (but not limited to) IGCSE and A-level academic management
Experience in mentoring, leading, and managing school within a collaborative learning environment
Experience in teacher evaluation and professional development
Experience in curriculum development
Experience with boarding and pastoral duties, including evening duty and after-school CCAs, is an advantage
Strong understanding of independent school management, particularly in instructional practices, school culture, and operations
Familiarity with the international school application process
Proven commitment to diversity,equity,and inclusion.
