The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated Teacher of English who is passionate about inspiring a love of learning. You will join a team committed to nurturing curiosity, developing confident communicators, and empowering every student to achieve their personal best. Whether you are an experienced practitioner or an Early Career Teacher, this is a fantastic opportunity to grow in a school that values creativity, collaboration, and professional development.
The English Department
Our English department is a vibrant, high-achieving team with a strong record of exceptional results. At our core is a shared commitment to helping students become resilient, independent thinkers. We are proud of our longstanding connection with the Let’s Think programme at King’s College London, which shapes much of our dialogic approach to teaching. Through rich discussion and thoughtful reasoning, students learn to articulate their ideas confidently and critically.
Our School
St Thomas More is an inclusive, compassionate community where every individual is encouraged to flourish. We celebrate success in all its forms—academic, creative, personal—and take pride in helping our students grow into confident, well-rounded young adults.
We offer a rich variety of extra-curricular opportunities, including extensive local, national, and international trips. Many of our students also participate in Duke of Edinburgh awards and contribute actively to charity initiatives, helping to build character, empathy, and leadership skills.
We are delighted to have recently been awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark Award, a recognition of our ongoing commitment to ensuring equity, respect, and belonging for every member of our school community. Though we are a faith school, we warmly welcome staff and students from all backgrounds and encourage broad, informed understanding of diverse beliefs.
As a small school, we truly value each individual. Our active Well-Being Committee—representing teaching, administrative, and support staff—works proactively to support colleagues, share ideas, and foster a culture of appreciation.
We are proud to be an OFSTED-rated ‘Good’ school, consistently placed within the top 1–2% nationally for Progress 8. This success is a testament to high-quality teaching, excellent professional development, strong support structures, and positive relationships with our families.
Our Multi-Academy Trust
St Thomas More Comprehensive is part of the St Oscar Romero Catholic Academy Trust . As part of our family of schools, staff contribute to a shared mission: to empower, inspire and enable all children to flourish through authentic Catholic education. We welcome colleagues who are committed to collaboration, compassion, and ensuring every child can thrive.
