About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of Humanities to join our secondary school team. The successful candidate will inspire students to explore history, geography, and social studies through critical inquiry, evidence-based argumentation, and interdisciplinary connections. Key Responsibilities
Planning, Teaching and Class Management
Plan and deliver engaging Humanities lessons that promote progression and deep understanding.
Set clear teaching objectives and use a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of all learners.
Maintain pace, motivation, and discipline in the classroom in line with school policies.
Use effective questioning and assessment to address misconceptions and extend learning.
Select and adapt learning resources, including digital tools, to enhance student engagement.
Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, and Reporting
Assess student progress systematically and use data to inform planning and target setting.
Mark and monitor student work, providing constructive feedback to support improvement.
Prepare reports for parents and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
Contribute to department and examination board assessment requirements.
Curriculum Development
Contribute to the ongoing development of the Humanities curriculum.
Support the integration of interdisciplinary projects and inquiry-based learning.
Ensure curriculum coverage aligns with school goals and international standards.
Pastoral Duties
Serve as a Form Tutor, supporting the academic and personal development of a group of students.
Promote student wellbeing, attendance, and participation in school life.
Liaise with pastoral leaders and parents to support individual student needs.
Other Professional Requirements
Engage in professional development and reflective practice.
Collaborate with colleagues to share resources and best practices.
Participate in school events such as Open Days, Parent Evenings, and marketing activities.
Uphold the school’s policies and professional standards at all times.
Requirements
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in History, Geography, Social Sciences, or a related Humanities field (Master’s preferred).
Valid teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or international equivalent).
Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience teaching Humanities in an international or bilingual school setting.
Experience with IGCSE, A-Level History/Geography is highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies
Specialization in at least one Humanities discipline with strong curriculum knowledge.
Ability to design interdisciplinary and inquiry-based learning experiences.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to guide students in research and argumentation.
Proficiency in using educational technology and digital resources to support teaching and learning.
Experience organizing academic debates, Model United Nations (MUN), or field studies is an advantage.
Culturally sensitive and globally minded, with the ability to teach diverse perspectives.
