Curriculum and Instruction

  • Plan and implement engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with MYP Physical and Health Education objectives and assessment criteria.

  • Deliver a balanced PHE curriculum that develops students’ physical competence, health literacy, teamwork, and understanding of lifelong wellbeing.

  • Design learning experiences that promote movement skills, personal fitness, collaboration, and responsible decision-making in physical and health contexts.

  • Integrate Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills and support the development of the IB Learner Profile attributes through physical activity and health education.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the varied physical abilities, learning needs, and backgrounds of students.

  • Promote safe participation in all physical activities and ensure appropriate risk management and supervision at all times.

  • Incorporate technology and digital tools where appropriate to support learning, performance analysis, and reflection.

Assessment and Reporting

  • Design and administer assessments in accordance with MYP Physical and Health Education criteria and moderation practices.

  • Use formative and summative assessment to track student progress in both physical performance and conceptual understanding.

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students to support skill development, goal setting, and reflection on personal progress.

  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement and participation.

  • Prepare and submit accurate student reports and participate in parent-teacher conferences.

Learning Environment and Student Support

  • Establish a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment that promotes participation, teamwork, and mutual respect.

  • Encourage students to develop confidence, resilience, and personal responsibility through physical activity and health education.

  • Promote student voice, choice, and goal setting within physical learning experiences.

  • Support students’ physical, social, emotional, and academic development through proactive pastoral care.

  • Collaborate with the learning support team to implement accommodations and modifications where needed.

  • Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe manner and that students understand expectations related to equipment use, facilities, and personal safety.

Collaboration and Professionalism

  • Work collaboratively with MYP team members and other subject departments to support interdisciplinary units and whole-school initiatives related to health and wellbeing.

  • Contribute to the development and review of MYP PHE curriculum documents, unit plans, and assessment practices.

  • Support school sports programmes, extracurricular activities, or health-related initiatives where appropriate.

  • Participate in professional learning, staff meetings, and school-wide initiatives.

  • Communicate effectively with parents, students, and colleagues.

  • Model professionalism, ethical conduct, and a commitment to the school's mission and values.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, Health Education, or a related field, and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education or equivalent teaching qualification.

  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in a middle years or international school setting.

  • Experience teaching Physical and Health Education across a range of age groups.

  • Experience or training in the IB Middle Years Programme strongly preferred, particularly within the Physical and Health Education subject group.

  • Demonstrated understanding of inquiry-based learning and concept-based curriculum design.

  • Strong assessment literacy and understanding of criterion-referenced assessment.

  • Knowledge of safe practice in physical activity and sport instruction.

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
