Chester College International School, located in the outskirts of the historic city of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, is seeking a dynamic and experienced educational leader to join our team as Deputy Headteacher /Teaching and Learning.

Founded in 1985, Chester College offers a multilingual environment, rooted in Christian Catholic humanistic values. As a very small, close-knit school community, we aim at providing an excellent, personalized education to pupils aged 3 to 18, fostering academic excellence, personal growth and integrity.


The role:

The School is seeking a passionate and energetic leader with a commitment to academic excellence, student well-being and school growth and development. The Deputy Headteacher will work closely with the Headteacher to support parents, staff and students, contributing to the school strategic growth and development.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operations Management: Manages the day-to-day operations of the school, ensuring smooth and effective functioning. Takes responsibility for the School in the absence of the Headteacher.
  • Leadership & Professional Development: Promotes the provision of high-quality teaching, learning and assessment; monitors reviews and evaluates teaching and learning, including the tracking of individual performance; contributes to the development of a curriculum that allows the highest achievements for all; chairs meetings as relevant to specific responsibilities.
  • Part-time teaching commitment: Teach within a department or section of the School contributing to the work of that department.
  • Student Progress: Evaluates and ensures maximum student academic and personal progress.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicates, reaches out and engages with parents, students and other key stakeholders in the wider school community.
  • Extracurricular Development: Contributes to the ongoing development of our extracurricular programs.
  • School Improvement: Contributes to the development and implementation of a comprehensive school continuous improvement plan.
  • Growth Strategy: Contributes to the development and execution of a growth strategy for the school.


Qualifications:

  • Qualified teacher status.
  • Good Honours degree.
  • Leadership experience or training.


Experience:

  • Successful teaching experience.
  • Successful leadership of department or similar, leading the work of others, holding others to account, monitoring and evaluating.


Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of best practice teaching methodologies
  • Understanding of best practice in pastoral care
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish


Skills:

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, lead and support others.
  • Excellent teaching skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.


Personal:

  • Capacity for hard work
  • High level of energy
  • Patience and good humour
  • Eligibility to work in the European Union is an advantage.

Chester College International School is a small, co-educational, international private American day and boarding school in Spain, serving students from the age of 3-18. The school is situated in Teo, Santiago de Compostela, the capital of Galicia, and has a Catholic ethos. It is accredited by the Spanish Ministry of Education and COGNIA. The school also runs international summer camps for students from the age of 3-17, where children can learn Spanish and English.
