We are looking for an enthusiastic and engaging teacher to take on the role of 2nd in Charge of the Modern Foreign Languages department from September 2024. We specialise in French and Spanish and teach students from years 7 to 13. We enjoy a very healthy uptake at GCSE, as well as at A Level.

We are looking for a candidate to join a motivated and energetic team, who is able to teach both French and Spanish at Key Stage 3 and either French or Spanish up to Key Stage 5. One of your key foci from September 2024 will be to support in the planning, development and delivery of resources for the new GCSE specification, as well as continuing to broaden the Faculty’s extra-curricular offering. You will work within a team of 5 teachers and alongside designated Head of French and Head of Spanish teachers.

Hollyfield is a successful and thriving school, in the Surbiton area of Outer London. Excellent transport links enable our staff and young people to take full advantage of the wealth of opportunities that London provides. We are an ambitious school that puts student achievement and wellbeing at its heart. Our students are diverse and fantastic, and we pride ourselves on delivering on our Trust’s commitment of ‘Every Child Every Day’.

In April 2020 we were judged by Ofsted to be ‘good’: ‘School leaders are keen to ensure all pupils achieve their best. Pupils respond well to leaders’ high expectations. There is a distinct sense of community in the school. Pupils grow in confidence and learn to work together well as a result.’ However, we aspire to be an outstanding school, and our governing body, teaching and non-teaching staff are united in working towards delivering the best possible academic and pastoral outcomes for our students.

This post is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is looking to take the next step in their career. You will be well supported, nurtured and offered every opportunity to develop by our strong and effective leadership team. As a part of this, you will be offered a full suite of CPD opportunities to complement your leadership and pedagogical development.

As part of the Every Child, Every Day Academy Trust, you would have valuable opportunities to collaborate with colleagues at Grey Court and Chessington. Joint faculty meetings, co-planned between the three Heads of MFL, allow for the sharing of ideas, good practice, planning and resources, as well as a chance to discuss approaches to middle leadership from an MFL perspective.

The successful candidate will meet the following essential criteria:

● QTS;

● a broad base of subject knowledge;

● the ability to teach across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5;

● a track record of success in middle leadership;

● employs a range of teaching and learning strategies;

● the ability to work effectively as part of a curriculum team;

● the ability to maintain good classroom behaviour;

● effective interpersonal skills;

● able to demonstrate suitability to work with children and young people.

We want the best people for our roles, so while this is primarily a full time post, we recognise that sometimes those best suited to roles on offer aren’t available full time. Please talk to us about the flexibility you may need.
