La Mare de Carteret High School is seeking, with effect from 1st September 2016 or January 1st 2017, an experienced, dynamic and well-qualified specialist graduate teacher with the vision to deliver high standards of teaching and learning in Mathematics. You will teach throughout Key Stage 3 and 4 and will assist in implementing the aims of the Department, taking responsibility for specific areas of work as agreed with the Head of Department. Furthermore, you will be expected to make a full contribution to the ethos, identity and life of the School and to the Guernsey Federation of Secondary Schools.

The three island 11-16 High Schools, the Guernsey Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre (11-18), and St Anne’s School in Alderney work in a federated model of partnership working led by the Director of Education.

Employed by the States of Guernsey and be based at La Mare de Carteret High School, you will be required to maximise opportunities for collaborative working, teaching and learning across key stages and shared professional development across schools. There is an expectation that they will engage in cross-school initiatives which may require working on more than one site to meet the needs of the Education Service.

You will be able to excite and challenge young people and will be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning. You are also expected to have excellent communication and management skills, a strong commitment to team work and the ability to maintain productive relationships with staff and young people. We are looking for someone who is passionate about raising learners’ individual achievements and you will have a proven track record in equipping learners to make excellent progress, and the determination to make a difference to the lives of young people.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in an experienced department of subject specialists and to play a prominent role in middle leadership. The success rate in external examinations has shown upward trend, and the subject is firmly established in the curriculum of the school.

This post carries a 15 year housing licence. If appointed, you can expect to:

Salary will be in accordance with the Main Pay Scale of £28,534 - £40,972 per annum. There is also an Upper Pay Scale of £43,271 - £46,024 per annum for teachers who have successfully gone through the Threshold Assessment, plus the Management Allowance Level 1 of £2,750 per annum.

About La Mare de Carteret High School

Located on Guernsey, the Channel Islands, La Mare de Carteret is a secondary school first established in its current form in 2009, following a merger with another local secondary school. The school follows the standard curriculum common between all schools on the Channel Islands, with students at the school ultimately working towards their GCSE examinations at age 16. Following students have the option of either leaving education, or continuing their further education studies at a local college, allowing them to study for A-level examinations. The school is able to support this curriculum with a range of modern teaching and recreational facilities. The school is dedicated to providing a comprehensive education for students from a range of social and economic backgrounds, and works hard to ensure that the school curriculum is properly personalised and equipped to support the educational needs of every child.
