Job overview

The University of York International Pathway College is looking to recruit an experienced A-level teacher (or similar) from a relevant subject area (e.g. physics/computer science/DT) to lead our Electronics and, over time, Robotics modules. Our electronics module aims to prepare students who wish to pursue later undergraduate programmes with the core concepts that might be studied on an A-level/BTEC electronics programme. The robotics module is highly practical in nature and delivers the key level 3 ideas in computer programming and electronics using the Lego Mindstorms and Arduino platforms. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative teacher to have considerable input into the design and delivery of two innovative and flexible modules. The post will be available from September 2024.

We appreciate that a move to the University may seem daunting but please be reassured that if you have successfully taught in a school/college then you will have the skills we are looking for. If you have any concerns then please do feel free to contact us and we would be happy to arrange a discussion about the post.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Experience of effective delivery of level 3 electronics (or closely related) teaching from school, university or other setting.
  • A professional teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE)
  • Degree in a relevant subject
  • Detailed subject and pedagogical knowledge of electronics, and computer science (suitable for level 3)
  • Ability to design and deliver teaching and assessment materials
  • Ability to engage and support students from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Ability to deliver effective learning through practical tasks
  • Experience of working in a laboratory/workshop and an ability to carry out risk assessment.

Department

The University of York International Pathway College (IPC) takes students from around the world and prepares them for undergraduate and postgraduate study at the University of York. As our students are largely non-native level English speakers and have a wide range of academic backgrounds, we have a team of language staff who provide language teaching alongside our delivery of subject content. The IPC offers A-level standard Foundation Certificate qualifications that lead to progression onto York undergraduate programmes as well as Pre-Masters qualifications that lead to postgraduate programmes. We are based in the award winning Piazza building on the University of York East Campus and our science programmes benefit from a suite of purpose built laboratories equipped with a comprehensive set of recently purchased equipment.
