The Team

The art team works with students across a rang of different courses from general art and design to fashion, photography, illustration, and spatial and graphic design. Courses are run at levels 1 - 4

The Role

This role would be suited to someone looking to support students learning, with particular focus surrounding art and design, using coaching /mentoring skills to enable students to achieve their targets on their learning programmes. The role also includes delivery of general information sessions for students, taking them through initial college induction and then providing ongoing advice and guidance to suit the level they are working at. The role also involves helping students to progress with their education either in college or onto university, apprenticeship, or work. 

As with all Academic coach roles, the monitoring of student progress and attendance is also key and as such the role works closely with teachers, technical demonstrators, and administrators to deliver a holistic approach to the arts curriculum. Each week the academic coach will meet with each group to share information and general guidance. They will also have one to one meeting for specific mentoring and guidance. This role may also include some cover for art lessons on occasion. 

The Successful Candidate

The successful candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, abilities and qualities will include:

• Educated to level 3 (including GCSE Maths & English at a grade C/4 or above)

• Experience of working with young people and adults

• Enthusiastic, motivated and committed to supporting and motivating students.

• Strong digital skills, including word processing and electronic communication.

• Passionate about the visual arts.

• A qualification in art and design is desirable but not essential.

Northampton College is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational further education college situated in Northamptonshire. It is a 16-plus institution with three campuses: a major building at its main Northampton site, a smaller campus near the town centre and another 20 miles away in Daventry. It provides places for around 9,000 students aged 16 and over, most of whom are full-time and aged 16-18.

Northampton College was opened in 1973. It merged with Daventry Tertiary College to expand its Daventry campus in August 2004, and its Booth Lane campus reopened after a large redevelopment in 2012.
