Salary: UCL Academy Scale S05 Spine Point 12-15, (£26,544-£28,003). Actual salary: £23,060.42 - £24,328.02 term time only

Contract Type: Full Time or Part time (Term Time only). Fixed until 31 August 2022 in the first instance with the possibility of extension.

The Academic Coach role supports students’ academic development and progress in Science, creating appropriate resources and strategies to coach students and work with underachieving students in the subject. The main aim is supporting the students’ action plans and overcoming barriers to their academic learning.

About the Department

The Science department at UCL Academy plan and teach a curriculum which is both inspiring and engaging and includes elements of cutting edge research. We have 6 hi-tech science labs, 2 open learning spaces and a lecture theatre. Our unique links with University College London, gives us access to their amazing laboratories with cutting edge equipment.  This way, we aim to enrich our students with practical and real-life context self-directed activities.

The iGEM competition, Global Experiment, CREST awards, Greenpower Electric Car' competition and Salter's chemistry festivals are encouraged, to extend the students beyond the curriculum and give them a chance to experience ‘genuine’ science.  We have very strong links to the Welcome Trust, The Crick Institute and the Queen Square Brain Bank. What we Want

• To coach and support students consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual academic needs;

• To work with individuals and small groups with a dynamic intervention approach;

• To work with teaching staff in the development of appropriate resources for use in individual/group sessions to support the learning of targeted students;

• To develop timetables and action plans for the targeted students;

• To communicate with parents/carers (where applicable) and staff regarding students’ work and progress.
