Ofsted recognised our truly innovative approach to delivering personalised CPD. Inspired by Harry Beck’s London Underground Tube map, our staff (passengers), choose their destination, the lines they wish to travel, and the stops they want to get off at. Many staff are also drivers sharing their expertise with colleagues.
We are seeking to appoint an excellent Academic Mentor to join us in motivating and challenging our students. You will be accountable for addressing the needs of pupils who require help and support during their academic studies. You will guide pupils through the pivotal years of their secondary and Post-16 education, ensuring that they achieve their full potential during public examinations. This will be a complimentary service to the existing teaching and pastoral support provided in school. The hours are 37 per week, term time plus one week.
You will be a member of the Academic Mentor team, acting as a ‘go-between’ for parents/carers: discussing issues or concerns with teachers and feeding back the information in a way which will benefit the student. We liaise with parents/carers regarding homework and revision, ensuring that students are maximising their studies. As an Academic Mentor you will have a good listening ear and creative ideas on how to motivate the students.
The focus of the Mentors within the team is periodically reviewed and may change. This role requires you to participate in all aspects of life at the academy and involves occasional evening work.
