Magnus Academy is a rapidly improving school, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, seeking to appoint outstanding academic tutors who are dynamic and dedicated to ensuring the best outcomes for our students. 

We are looking to appoint a team of highly skilled tutors across core subjects who will work with identified students or small groups of students for intervention, catch up, closing gaps and to help us ensure students achieve their targets within maths, English and science.  The right candidates will be totally aligned to our values of determination, integrity, ambition, humility and compassion and completely committed to our vision: Through world class learning we develop people of good character who achieve excellence and make a positive contribution to their communities.

Tutoring will take place in the academy during the school day or virtually through Microsoft Teams if planned for out of school hours, such as weekends or early evening – this would be with parental supervision. 

The ideal candidates will have experience of tutoring at secondary level, although some training may be available.  Individuals who are currently studying for a degree or post grad qualification in maths, English, science, or closely related courses are also welcome to apply.

Magnus Academy is a rapidly improving school, recently rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and on a journey to 'Outstanding'.  Magnus is a mixed, non-selective, Church of England secondary school with sixth form situated in the beautiful riverside town of Newark, Nottinghamshire. There are approximately 680 students at the school, between the ages of 11-18.

Formerly Magnus C of E School, the amalgamation of the Magdalene High School and The Thomas Magnus School, Manus C of E Academy converted to academy status in 2014. Founded as a grammar school in 1531 by British diplomat Thomas Magnus, the school’s original building is now a museum. The school is a member of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham Multi Academy Trust.

Above all else, Magnus is a family and we welcome all new staff and students alike.

Magnus C of E Academy is an inclusive school where each student is valued and supported, allowing for them reach their full potential. It wishes for pupils to develop in self-confidence and believe in success. The academy has five core values: determination, integrity, ambition, humility and compassion. Leadership plays a key role at Magnus C of E Academy, and students are encouraged to develop these skills with an active Student Council. The secondary school wants all pupils to have an aspiration and runs a careers programme to raise awareness of future opportunities both inside and outside of Newark.
