Job overview

Leigh Academies Trust is now recruiting for one of the most exciting opportunities currently available in the education sector; due to the continued growth of the Trust, including the recent merger with The Williamson Trust, we are now seeking two Academies Directors to lead two adjacent clusters of academies each to ensure strong educational outcomes for all pupils. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for the right candidates with a commitment to system-wide leadership who are ready for the challenge ahead.

Leigh Academies Trust is a highly successful multi-academy trust. Its model of education enables students to reach their full potential, transforming their lives and ultimately the communities in which they live.  The overarching purpose of the role of Academies Director is to provide educational leadership to Leigh Academies Trust’s academies across phases within two adjacent clusters, ensuring that Trust strategy is delivered.  You will foster a culture of collaboration and innovation that allows our students to receive the best possible education.

Our mission is to shape young people’s lives for the better through high-quality education and in doing so, transform the communities in which they live. You will lead, challenge and support all Principals across your assigned region working closely with the Chief Executive and other Trust Executives to help our academies reach their full potential. You will report directly to the CEO and can be sure of very considerable opportunities for further development.

For both positions, our ideal candidate will be an existing and outstanding Principal or Executive Principal with a proven track record of delivering strong educational outcomes and experience in a range of school settings.  You will help to inspire our senior leaders across a range of academies to deliver excellence in everything we do.  We are especially keen to hear from candidates with particular expertise and knowledge across all phases of education who are keen to make an impact across multiple communities.  We are looking for people who believe in the transformative power of education with the ability to inspire all stakeholders to achieve amazing things.

Applications need to be submitted electronically; scroll down to start the process by clicking ‘Apply for job’.  Please refer to the application guidance in the Candidate Briefing Pack regarding the six core competencies which your application letter should be based on.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be an outstanding and inspirational leader;
  • Have a proven track record of success in raising pupil attainment across all phases;
  • Be organised, energetic and passionate about working cross-Trust;
  • Be committed to the LAT ethos of high expectations;
  • Have the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of learners; and
  • Be a committed team player.

In return, you will receive:

  • A highly competitive salary which reflects your experience and expertise as a senior leader;
  • Excellent opportunities to develop your leadership skills and your overall career within a successful and well respected multi-academy trust.

Diversity at our core:  As a Trust, we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.  The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.

About Leigh Academies Trust

Leigh Academies Trust is one of the country’s largest and most-established multi-academy trusts operating across four ‘clusters’: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London and Medway.

The Trust was formed in 2008 with the linking of the Leigh Technology Academy and Longfield Academy under one governing body. As of 1st April 2024, our Trust comprises 32 geographically organised academies (16 secondaries, 14 primaries and 2 special) educating 20,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff. It contains primary, secondary and special academies and is highly inclusive and successful. Our mission is to deliver “education for a better world” by ensuring that young people in our academies have an excellent start in life regardless of their background or ability.

We are a non-profit making charitable company, based in Strood, Medway. The Trust exists to support and assist schools to build upon their existing strengths and to help them achieve rapid educational transformation. It has significant experience in running schools, and today includes both sponsored academies and schools which have chosen to convert to academy status.

In addition to providing high-quality educational opportunities for all of our children, aged from 2 months to 19 years, and their families, we are proud to provide many opportunities for lifelong learning.  These are delivered through the organisations under our umbrella: Thames Gateway Teaching School Hub, LAT Apprenticeships and Kent and Medway Training (KMT), which delivers routes into teaching. Our future plans are found in our Vision 2030 document available on our website.

Benefits for LAT employees

As part of Leigh Academies Trust you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust. This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

We strive to offer a range of benefits that all employees can take advantage of which we regularly review and improve, based on what our staff want and need - click here to view what you’d receive as a member of staff with Leigh Academies Trust.

This includes online checks for shortlisted candidates - you can read more about this in our Recruitment Guidance. All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, references, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check.

Our commitment to equality and diversity: As a Trust, we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals, we all bring something unique to the role regardless of any protected characteristics which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise. We are committed to providing equality and fairness throughout our recruitment and employment practices and not discriminating on any grounds.
