Job overview

Dover Christ Church Academy - Vacancy for the post of Academy Principal

The Trustees are seeking to appoint a Principal with significant successful institutional leadership experience as a Principal, Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher or equivalent. The successful candidate will be highly ambitious for students, and a strategic thinker, not just committed to raising standards, but able to demonstrate very substantial evidence of having had a positive impact on academic outcomes across a school.

Our Academy is located in the Whitfield area of Dover, Kent and supports a growing roll of 690 students, our expected intake of 170 year 7 students in September 2017 is oversubscribed. Our post 16 provision is comprehensive and student roll is also increasing in size.

Since the Academy opened in September 2010, we have made great strides in transforming the life chances of young people in Dover. We have recently completed an £11m new build and refurbishment project creating state of the art facilities. Examination results in 2016 saw the Academy maintaining outcomes above DfE floor standards.

A unique feature of our Academy is the Aspen 2 unit, a district specialist provision for 40 secondary aged students with profound, severe and complex learning needs. Throughout their education journey at Aspen 2, all students benefit from the rich and varied inclusive opportunities that we are able to provide; opportunities that are made all the richer by our unique position at the heart of a mainstream academy.

The Academy works in close partnership with our sponsor, Canterbury Christ Church University, which has ambitious plans to further develop provision locally by working with other stakeholders to open a new secondary Special School, and to develop a Multi-Academy Trust including a new Free School. There will be opportunities for the successful applicant in relation to these projects.

We are keen to hear from candidates who will:

  • Embrace our vision for the Academy and aspire to be outstanding within five years
  • Establish a culture that promotes excellence, equality, high expectations and aspirations for all students
  • Have a strong record of school improvement
  • Inspire pupils, staff, parents and the wider community

For this exceptional role, there will be a competitive salary reflecting the skills, qualities and experience of an outstanding candidate who is capable of leading this transformational change,

Dover Christ Church Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
