Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding practitioner able to lead by example who will build on the success of the Academy’s provision for our children with SEND and Pupil Premium entitlement. Applications are particularly welcomed from colleagues who currently have a Teaching and Learning Responsibility.

This is a key role within our Academy and main responsibilities include:

• To professionally lead and manage SEND in accordance with the published SEN policy

• Lead and line manage specialist teaching staff and designated teaching assistants and liaise with relevant staff, external agencies and parents

• Co-ordinate the Academy’s Pupil Premium provision

• Lead the Academy’s KS2-3 transition arrangements (and KS4-5 transition for students with SEND)

The post includes the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leader. There is also a requirement to take responsibility for the running of the school if the Executive Headteacher and Deputy Executive Headteacher are absent.

The successful candidate will:

• see SEN and PP provision through the perspective of school improvement

• be passionate about ensuring every child fulfils their potential

• be capable of steering, supporting and motivating colleagues

• understand that parents and carers have the greatest influence upon their children and therefore clear professional relationships are key

• drive forward improvements and raise standards for children with SEND across the school

The successful candidate will share the Academy’s ethos that: inclusion is about ensuring children are not pigeon-holed by the things, they can’t do but promoted for the things they will be able to do, after getting the opportunities that middle class children tend to get from their parents.

In your application share your ideas and detail the steps you would take as SENDCo to ensure that pupils with SEND achieve a progress 8 score that is ‘well above the national average’ band.

This is an ideal opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their career further and gain experience in a management and leadership role.
