Access Teacher

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Access Teacher from April or September 2021. 

We welcome applications from NQTs and primary teachers.

Hours: 32.5 hours per week

Salary: Teacher Mainscale/UPS      SEN allowance

The Role

The successful candidate will join a team of Access teachers who have experience of working in primary, secondary and special schools.  The Access Team are part of the Learning Support and Development Faculty who support students in meeting target outcomes.  

Students in the Access classes enter their secondary education working at levels 3 and below and experience barriers to learning. They have a range of special education needs including language and literacy difficulties, Asperger’s Syndrome and physical disabilities. The school has a Special Facility for students with speech, language and communication difficulties, the majority of whom are taught in Access classes.

Teachers and support staff in the Faculty are committed to knowing their students as individuals and meeting their needs through a personalised range of support. 

All staff contribute to the development of policy and practice through a process of ongoing reflection and evaluation.

Teaching and Learning

Access teachers are teachers of English, Maths and Humanities. They follow the schemes of work developed by each Faculty and contribute to the planning, evaluating and development of this curriculum. In addition, teachers further differentiate this curriculum to meet the needs of the students that they work with.  Teachers in the Access team also teach English and Maths GCSE and Entry Level courses, PSHE and ASDAN life skills courses. The Faculty runs daily Independent Study support sessions and staff are involved in a range of extra-curricular activities.

Teachers need to develop excellent relationships with students in their classes and with their parents and carers.  They need to manage the effective deployment of Learning Support Assistants and volunteers and to work together with specialist teachers and other professionals to reduce the barriers to learning experienced by their students. Year 7 teachers will also liaise with Primary Schools regarding students who will join their classes.
