Due to the retirement of our current Head, the Governors at Newtown are seeking to appoint for September 2017 an ambitious and inspiring leader as Acting Headteacher, for the academic year 2017 – 2018 in the first instance. This is an opportunity to build on Newtown Primary School’s many good features, steering it towards becoming an outstanding school.

Exeter has been voted one of the top cities to live in the UK and Newtown Primary School is situated in the very heart of the city. Our children are confident, well-behaved and friendly and we are proud of the enthusiasm and creativity they demonstrate and the many cooperative ways pupils and staff work together in this culturally diverse community.

We are looking for an Acting Headteacher, keen to make a difference and embrace change as we embark on new partnerships. You should enjoy working with children of all abilities and backgrounds, for some of whom English is not their first language, in mixed age and ability classes. You should be supportive of creative ways of working to achieve the very highest academic standards. You will need to be an innovative manager of the school’s resources in these times of challenging budgets. There will also be a teaching commitment of 0.2 per week.
