Key Responsibilities 

  • Promoting the mission of the Catholic Church and providing opportunities for staff, students and parents to encounter God through the life, words and teachings of Jesus Christ.
  • Cultivating engagement in the two complementary dimensions of Religious Education: Teaching people about religion and Teaching people to be religious in a particular way.
  • Supporting teachers to develop, implement and evaluate classroom Religion teaching and learning programs, including the embedding of Catholic perspectives across all areas of the curriculum.
  • Instructional leadership in Religious Education classes.
  • Developing, facilitating and promoting Religious Education Professional Learning opportunities to enhance the quality of teaching and learning, improve student outcomes in Religion and build the capacity of teachers.
  • Collaboratively developing, facilitating and promoting faith formation opportunities for staff, students, families and the school community.
  • Collaboratively developing, facilitating and promoting faith prayer, liturgical and worship life of the school community.
  • Collaboratively developing, facilitating and promoting the school’s social justice and service learning initiatives.
  • Communicating with the school community with the purpose of celebrating student engagement in Religious Education and the Religious Life of the School.
  • Liaising with the Parish, promoting the school and coordinating opportunities for the school to participate in the Parish community.

Essential Criteria 

  • Must hold a relevant Working with Children registration and Teaching Accreditation
  • Must have commenced or completed relevant degree.
  • Have completed 6 undergraduate subjects or 4 postgraduate subjects.
  • Must be Catholic
  • Must have completed, be due to complete, or have a willingness to complete Accreditation D – Teach Religious Education in a Catholic school.
  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the goals of Catholic Education and the ability to lead in Developing a Faith Community in the Catholic tradition.
  • Demonstrate excellence in Educational Leadership, particularly in curriculum and policy development.
  • Demonstrate effective Communication, Leadership and Community Building Skills.
  • Demonstrate high-quality teaching and learning when in the role of a classroom teacher, and have the ability to lead and support teachers in their development.
  • Demonstrate excellent organisational skills and administrative practices, including the effective use of technology.
