Additional Support Worker (Fitness to Study)

Here at Blackpool Sixth, we want to make sure that our students with special educational needs, disabilities, medical needs or mental health conditions enjoy full support to help them succeed in their studies. We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to help our vulnerable students to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential. The results speak for themselves: all of our students with high needs who completed in summer 2017 achieved success in their studies and went on to further study or employment with training. We proudly hold the Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark, awarded in June 2017 and have expertise in mental health, autism and other special educational needs and disabilities.   

So what part will you play in all of this? Identifying the individual needs of each student, you’ll work with teachers, other colleagues and outside agencies to put in place effective support strategies. You will provide support both in class and out of class to ensure that students enjoy equal access to the curriculum and the broader range of  opportunities that make up college life, that they are successful in their studies and that they progress to higher education or employment with training. 

Excellent communication skills are clearly essential, while experience of working with young people with learning difficulties and disabilities and an awareness of effective strategies to support and promote independence would be ideal. You should also bring a sensitive and patient approach, plus the ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team.

Points 15 to 17 of the Sixth Form Colleges Support Staff pay spine currently £13,753 to £14,398 per annum for a term time only role. 

This is a fixed term post for the academic year 2018/19.
