Job overview

This is a perfect opportunity for an experienced teacher to teach Accounting, Business Studies and ICT to GCSE level and ICT to A level.

A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK.  Following the opening of its international airport in October 2017, St Helena is better placed to develop both economically and socially.

There are four schools on the Island; one secondary and three primaries, the curriculum broadly models the English education system.

As you co-ordinate and develop the curriculum and contribute to the ICT curriculum, you will plan and deliver appropriate schemes of work while managing resources and equipment. Alongside Senior Management you will contribute to strategic planning and liaise with key stakeholders to help Senior Management in succession planning.

Leading the delivery of an accounting qualification and developing courses for school and FE students you must support and advise teachers and trainers in these specialist subjects. You will develop their abilities and contribute to the teaching of Business and Accounting within adult education. You will also oversee and implement distance learning programmes and online study courses.

Holding a recognised UK teaching qualification, you are qualified to degree level in Business, Accounting or a relevant area. Experienced in teaching Accounting to GCSE and potentially A level and Business Studies to GCSE level,+ you have knowledge of the Secondary Curriculum within the UK, relevant to Business and ICT. You will have provided professional development and training for other staff. Committed to aspirational classroom learning, you motivate and inspire, having high expectations of trainee and serving teachers. With excellent communication skills including the use of ICT, you are strong on leadership and negotiation.

We offer an extensive benefits package with 30 days leave pa, fare paid travel, freight, pension contribution and relocation allowance (see overseas vacancy information). An application form can be found at http://www.sthelenacareers.co.uk where further information can also be found, or you may contact Kedell Worboys on 0203 818 7610 or email: shgukrep@sthelenagov.com.

In order to apply please submit application forms to recruitment@sainthelena.gov.sh by the closing date of 12 Aug 2019. Interviews will be held in London shortly after that date.

Due to the potential for high numbers of applications, if you have not heard from us within 2 weeks of the closing date you should assume you have not been short listed.  We would like to thank you for your interest in working for the St Helena Government.
