About The Team

We need a motivated and highly skilled Teacher for children and young people with visual impairment on a full-time basis.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary service of enthusiastic and successful advisory teachers supporting effective inclusion and equal opportunities. We are looking for a qualified Teacher with the mandatory qualification for visual impairment and substantial experience in teaching children and young people with visual impairment.

This advisory post involves working with pre-school children and their families, pupils in mainstream and special school settings, including children with multiple disabilities. There is a close liaison with colleagues in Education, Health, Social Care and voluntary organisations. The London Borough of Hounslow has a primary visual impairment Centre catering for primary school aged children.

The ability to provide advice, support and training to schools, as well as undertake assessment using national guidelines and specific teaching support for individual children is essential.

You should have a sound understanding of the SEND Code of Practice: 0-25 about children who are visually impaired, be committed to upholding Quality Standards for Children and Young People with visual impairment and have good interpersonal and organisational skills. SEN Specialist Support service (includes Hearing Impairment and Physical Disabilities teams) is a well-established and highly valued central service.

Applicants should have a current driving licence and have the use of a car, for which a mileage allowance is paid.

Essential for The Role

Must be a qualified Teacher, with substantial experience of working with children with a vision impairment and must also have the post graduate Mandatory QTVI qualification.
