Job overview

Do you have expertise in working with young people with complex needs and behavioural difficulties? Here's an exciting opportunity to help us transform their futures in a dynamic new academy based in Carlton Colville, Suffolk.

At Catch22, we've built an impressive reputation in the alternative education provision sector for young people, and have been approved as an academy sponsor by the Department of Education. We believe that all young people have the capacity to learn, regardless of their life situation. And our aim is to open the door to learning for those - often with social, emotional and mental health needs - who have been excluded or marginalised.

Our new academy will provide a safe, nurturing environment for up to 50 students aged 9-16 who have been unable to sustain a place in mainstream education. By prioritising academic achievement and introducing behaviour interventions and therapeutic support where necessary, it will enable them to re-integrate at the same key stage as their peers, and go on to access opportunities into employment and further education.

As an Advocate, you'll have a significant part to play in the school's success. Working closely with the Deputy Headteacher and teaching staff, you'll assess each pupil's educational, emotional and behavioural needs, and then devise tailored advocacy and support programmes to meet them.  These could include individual sessions, group work, family visits and other interventions. We'll also expect you to assess the progress of the young people in your caseload regarding educational attainment, classroom behaviour and other issues such as vulnerability or risk of harm.

To be considered for this stimulating challenge, you must have a relevant NVQ level 2 qualification in working with young people in a teaching, youth and community work, social work, counselling or mentoring context. Along with a track record of assessing a range of complex family situations and putting effective strategies in place, you'll need a proven understanding of social inclusion, behavioural management techniques, influences on children and young people, and theories relating to childcare and child development.

The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents and carers and other agencies is vital, allied with the organisational skills to manage a busy caseload while maintaining accurate records and preparing written reports. But most of all, you'll share our passion for achieving positive outcomes for vulnerable young people.

Please see attached job description for full details of the role. If you would like to discuss this vacancy in more detail please contact Graham Payne at graham.payne@catch22mat.org.uk.
