Job overview

St Michael’s Prep School is a co-educational day school rated ‘Excellent’ by the ISI in March 2017, with approximately 460 children aged 2-13, enjoying a beautiful location, overlooking 90 acres of land. Our state-of-the-art Pre-Prep building sets each child on a learning journey that is rich, active and inspiring. Children continue into the Prep School, taught by a large number of specialist professionals who work throughout the school to provide a rich array of curricular and co-curricular opportunities.

Are you looking for a new challenge? Are you an organised and creative individual who enjoys working with children aged 3 to 13? Then please consider the opportunity to work in the after-school care facility at St Michael’s Prep School.

You will be part of a small team offering after-school care provision to children from Reception to Year 8. The role will be varied and exciting. You should be equally comfortable baking cakes, playing table tennis, sewing toys or crafting paper aeroplanes. No homework allowed!

You will help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the facility, under the guidance of the Wrap Around Care Manager. You will be expected to help plan and organise age-appropriate activities that engage the children. As part of the team, you will have responsibility for the safeguarding and welfare of the pupils in your care. You will be meticulous with paperwork and confident in dealing with parents. You will have bags of initiative and will be a reliable team player!

This role could be combined with one of our other vacancies, perhaps Early years Assistant (see website vacancies page for information).

To apply, please send a covering letter together explaining why you wish to apply for this role along with a completed non-teacher application form (in word or pdf format downloadable from our website)

Values and vision

Joy is at the heart of life at St Michael’s: the joy of our children, the joy of our community and the Joy and Wonder of Learning. St Michael’s is driven by a passionate belief in the value and power of learning: for children, for teachers, for parents and everyone who comes into contact with us.

St Michael’s is an inclusive school where each individual is known, valued and celebrated. We want our children to embrace each day and be inspired by their lessons and co-curricular activities.

We believe in providing a rounded education where children can pursue their passions, challenge themselves and enjoy a creative and innovative curriculum. We are continually looking for ways to improve our curriculum and facilities, making them more vibrant, inspiring and in step with our ever-changing world. Access to our 100 acre site plays an important role in the pupils’ learning and growth, developing them into mindful and knowledgeable citizens who will care for their environments throughout their lives.

Our growth mindset approach to teaching and learning ensures that every child understands the value of failure in their path to success. St Michael’s children are not afraid to get things wrong, or judgemental of others’ mistakes, and this is something they carry with them.

Our school motto: perseverantia, sapientia, gratia (perseverance, wisdom and gratitude) encapsulates our ethos of striving for success and using our skills to make a difference. These values are instilled daily throughout the St Michael’s journey.

We strongly believe that in order to teach our children about the importance of life-long learning, we must first model this ourselves. Our staff undergo regular professional development and parents are also invited to a range of workshops on relevant topics.

We are confident that when our pupils move on from St Michael’s, they will use the wisdom, skills and values that we taught them to make a positive change in the world.

ISI report

“Children’s personal and emotional development is outstanding. The children have learnt age appropriate independent skills. They feel safe, secure and happy, enabling them to make progress and be ready for the next stage of their learning. The excellent learning and care provision meets the needs of the range of children who attend. As the teaching is thoroughly planned based on children’s progress it is matched closely to their needs.”
