Job overview

After School Supervisor (Prep School)

An opportunity has arisen in the Prep School for an After-School Supervisor to look after pupils who are attending our after-school room whilst waiting to be picked up from school.  This is an important role in the school, as it is one of the most public facing roles and is a valued service for many pupils and parents; you would need to ensure there is a welcoming environment, that good standards of behaviour are maintained and that parental queries are answered with clarity.

This role may be ideally suited to you if you have experience of working with and supervising children and are looking for a role with regular after school hours.

Working hours are 3.30pm to 6.00pm Monday to Friday, term time only.

Further details and an application form can be found on our website: www.bedfordschool.org.uk/support-staff-vacancies

Please send completed applications to: vacancies@bedfordschool.org.uk  or post to Amy Baron, HR Assistant, The Bursary, Bedford School, 10 Glebe Road, Bedford MK40 2PL.

Closing date: 3 January 2020
Interview date: 9 January 2020

Awarded five stars in Fortune’s World’s Leading Boarding Schools in 2023 and named ‘Independent Boys School of the Year 2021’, Bedford Prep School is lauded for “its holistic school experience, tailored to the specific needs of the all-boys community, designed to ensure that students’ individual qualities are nurtured without inhibition and lived without awkwardness, so that they be good men.”

We believe that boys learn best when they’re happy and confident, and their curiosity is stimulated, so we feel it’s very important that learning is fun, creative, inspirational and active.  We also recognise boys learn differently to girls, and this informs our teaching.

Whether it’s music and the arts, science and technology, language and literature, or sports and games, boys are encouraged to learn new skills and embrace new experiences.

Visit our classes and you’ll find boys thoroughly engaged in their learning, inspired by challenge, competition, high expectations and risk within a safe environment.  Our expectations are high but achievable, and our curriculum encompasses and transcends the National Curriculum, uniting traditional practice with innovative teaching, and the best of the creative and academic.

Our extensive campus offers boys outstanding academic, sporting, music, drama and art facilities.  The Prep School is set in a discrete part of the estate, and we share the swimming pool, recreation centre, playing fields, astro and tennis courts with the Upper School and make use of the school’s fantastic theatre and other specialist facilities.

Working with each and every boy, we help them develop their sporting talents. We provide expert coaching in a wide variety of sports, including rugby, hockey, cricket, golf, skiing, horse riding, cross country, swimming, badminton and rowing.

Creative arts are a big part of school life, with boys taking part in concerts, exhibitions and performances throughout the year.  In our dedicated music building with a state-of-the-art music technology suite and well-equipped practice rooms, many of our boys learn to play one or more instruments.

Boys can also get involved in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, from cookery to steel band, chess to canoe building, there is something for every boy.
