Job overview

Are you looking for a new challenge? Here at St David’s we have just created a brand new role for an Alternative Provision Co-ordinator and are looking for a positive, pro-active and caring individual to join our dedicated and committed Pastoral Team from September 2017.  This is a new role and there is a real opportunity for you to shape how the role develops in the future. The role will involve working with the Senior Leadership Team and Heads of Year to deliver pastoral care in order to remove barriers to learning.

Duties will involve managing the school’s on call system, running break and lunch time detentions as appropriate and dealing with inappropriate behaviour according to school policy.   The ability to develop a range of approaches to assist in promoting positive behaviour in young people is essential.  This is an exciting opportunity to develop professionally by joining our forward thinking, caring school that is on a journey of rapid improvement.

The post is funded by the Pupil Deprivation Grant (PDG) and is subject to review on an annual basis.  The terms are term-time only - 37 hours per week.

St. David’s High School is a forward thinking and improving 11-16 comprehensive school with around 400 students. We are situated just ten minutes from the centre of the beautiful city of Chester.  Many of our staff travel from the Wirral, Chester and North Wales.

St. David's is a forward looking and caring mixed comprehensive school situated on the Welsh/English border on the outskirts of Chester.  There are currently 330 students on roll.  We are committed to ensuring every child at the school achieves their potential and aims "To be the best we can be, everyday".

The school first opened as a co-educational secondary modern in November 1954. It was a response to increasing numbers of children in the area needing educational provision. It changed its name from Saltney Secondary Modern to St David’s High School in September 1967. The school Speech/Prize day was held for the first time in March 1956.

Headteacher

Values and Vision

The St David’s motto is “to be the best we can be, everyday.” It aims to educate children in a way that helps them develop into confident, independent and articulate learners who are ready for a future in the modern world. A small size helps give a feeling of community that the school prides itself on.

Estyn

“The school has useful strategies in place to develop pupils’ literacy skills. In the majority of lessons, most pupils make sound progress. Many pupils develop their information and communications technology (ICT) skills well in many subjects across the curriculum. Many pupils display positive attitudes to learning and engage productively in lessons. In a short period of time, the headteacher has communicated successfully his vision for the school and gained the confidence of staff, pupils, parents and governors.”
